Modular Kitchen - The Concept

Modular Kitchen is a term used for the Modern type of Kitchen layout. It consists of cabinets to store different items in different sections of the Kitchen.

There are mainly two sections in this concept, the floor section and the wall section. The Floor section is the one which has the cabinets attached from the floor upwards until the Platform and The Wall section is the one having the cabinets attached from the wall a few feet above the Platform (mainly near roof)

This concept though introduced in 1998 in India became popular around 10 years later and it has now become one of the must-haves in a design of any home. Modular Kitchens are sophisticated, Streamlined, Sleek and are aesthetically very pleasing.

So make the right choice by choosing our modular kitchens.

Types of Modular Kitchen

L Shaped Kitchen

This is a contemporary style of Kitchen design in India. The platform runs along two perpendicular walls. This type of Kitchen is one the most popular choices, appropriate for modern style kitchen.

To achieve the perfect L Shaped design, the kitchen should be built at a corner where two walls form a perpendicular angle and where one wall is twice the length of the other.

U shaped Kitchen

A U-shaped kitchen is a kitchen layout that features three walls, lined up with cabinets and all the appliances. Its a design that maximizes the wall space by using walls for cabinets and appliances and frees up the floor space too.

It makes it easy for the home owners to access various areas without needing to walk around the kitchen much. The versatility of this layout means it will work no matter what the size of the kitchen is.

You can also use an island benchtop that separates the kitchen and dining areas and also creates a space for guests to sit opposite whilst you cook.

Straight Kitchen

The Straight Line or Straight shaped kitchen is one of the simplest kitchen layouts. This type of Modular kitchen design is the most effective for small spaces. One wall of the Kitchen is kept open and the entire kitchen is set on one side.

Here, to maximise the space, designers design it in a way that all the appliances are built in with the sink unit situated at the middle of the line. Indeed, this is a smart solution for a small room.

Parallel Kitchen

The parallel-shaped Modular kitchen layout consists of a work space on one wall with a second one parallel to it.

This is perhaps one of the most efficient one of all the kitchen designs. It is also known as the corridor style kitchen, which is a compact layout that locates the appliances, sink and cabinets on two parallel walls to create a small passage in the middle.

Due to the passage, there is ample space for walking around. It is also money saving and the key is to install tall kitchen cabinets that extend till the ceiling.

How to select design that match your Kitchen?

Selecting a design that matches your Kitchen may be tricky. Style is the first aspect, There are mainly three types of Kitchen styles to choose from,

Traditional or Victorian

Traditional/Victorian style reflects the beauty and elegance of the past generation. It generally has Wooden finish and creates a lasting impression.

Contemporary style of kitchens has shades of the Classical and the Ultra-Modern Kitchen. It is well suited for the current day and age. Strong contrasts but at the same time not too flashy.

This style of Kitchen is simple yet modern. The style uses a bit of traditional and contemporary both.

When choosing a style, a key aspect to keep in mind is that the design of the Kitchen needs to complement the interiors of the house.

Second is choosing the right type of Countertop.

A countertop is a significant part of your kitchen. In India, we mainly use stone as a counter top because it makes the Kitchen look classy and elegant. Another advantage of Stone is that it is easy to maintain. There are two types of stones used for Countertops,

Natural Stone

As the name suggests, Natural stones are the natural formations in nature. These are classy and give the kitchen a beautiful look. There are different types of natural stones that are used: Marble, Granite, Quartzite, Soapstone, Slate.

The most preferred type of stone is Granite in India. Another option is Silestone, which is a compound of 93% of natural quartz making it exceptionally hard and resilient. It also gives hygienic properties that are unique in the market. It is the perfect material for kitchen and bathrooms.
